2019. What a hell of a year.
This year saw the release of my collaboration with Matt Hayward, “A Penny for Your Thoughts” and I couldn’t possibly have been happier with the response it received. It was a blur of podcast interviews, reviews, and mentions, but it brought a smile to my face every time. That novel was released in paperback, ebook, and hardback and is still doing very well. I was beyond pleased to see it make so many readers “Best of” lists. It is also being released as a lettered edition (this edition is going to be… just absolutely staggering beautiful) from Another Ghost, in a partnership between Thunderstorm Books and Poltergiest Press. It sold out, along with a lettered edition of Aaron Dries “A Place for Sinners” in two hours. I’m so damned proud of that novel, and Matt and I are hard at work editing the sequel, “Lady Luck” to get it in your hands in 2020.
I had two collaborations with John Boden this year; “Rattlesnake Kisses”, and “Cattywampus”, as part of our Knucklebucket Thang series. “Rattlesnake Kisses” was relased in limited hardback from Thunderstorm Books, and in paperback and ebook from Apokrupha. The reception on this collaboration was so much fun to witness, and John and I took great pleasure in seeing it all unfold. This too, made a lot of “Best of” lists for 2019 and brought smiles to our faces.
My novella collection “Inner Demons” was released in a STUNNING limited edition hardcover by Thunderstorm Books, and I have the deepest thanks to Paul Goblirsch for putting so much effort and care into the production choices. It is a truly fantastic edition, and once again, this collection made lots of “Best of” lists for 2019. It has since been released in paperback and I love seeing readers and fans post photographs of it online.
I’m not a religious man and never have been, but the word that comes to mind for the collaborations this year, the reception of fans and readers and reviewers… the word that comes to mind is ‘blessed” because I’m not sure how else to describe it. There have been so many cheerleaders and people who have gone out of their way to post, and retweet, and spread the word, that I’m sure I’d miss someone if I started listing names. But thank you. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for enjoying the work and taking a moment to say something. It means the world to me and I appreciate everyone for it.
2020 is shaping up already to be just as amazing a year, and though I don’t want to reveal too much just yet, I can tell you there’ll be quite a few new releases, along with at least a limited series of videos — “The Coroner’s Report”.
I’m head down, nose to the grindstone… and I’ll keep writing as long as you keep reading.
Thanks so very much… and I wish you a safe and happy New Year.
